The future of the MST3K group

This group was founded almost 3 years ago by airherbe. Airherbe is, unfortunately, no longer an active user of SU and, as such, this group is kind of languishing in limbo. Of course, even when Airherbe was an active member he had pretty much nothing to do with this group. I don't believe he even posted once. He made it and then disappeared.

That said, I have expressed interest in taking over, but I am doubtful that Airherbe is receiving any communications from the world of SU. I have sent in feedback asking about the status of such "orphaned" groups and will hopefully get a response soon.

If not, any ideas on how to make this an actual, functioning group instead of a monument to failure? We have 204 members for fuck's sake.

Well, we need to think more about the focus. You're talking about a tiny cult show that only had a handful of seasons and episodes, which are hard to find I'm given to understand. If you can do something creative that goes beyond discussion of the show, you might save it.

I agree that this is a group worth saving.
As for episodes being hard to find, are you familiar with this site?

Like I said, "I'm given to understand". Anyway, it doesn't really change the validity of my statement. Oh, and, no I wasn't.

Cheers!

That's an excellent point. We can't just sit here and talk about how much we love Tom Servo, no matter how true it may be.

Like you said, the vast majority of episodes aren't exactly easy to find. However, there are numerous p2p outlets where those old episodes can be obtained. From what I understand, pretty much anything that Rhino hasn't put out on DVD is fair game as far as Best Brains is concerned.

That said, I'm apparently now owner of this group by SU fiat. And while, for the very reasons you mentioned, it may not really be possible to turn this into a "discussion" group, I'd at least like to get up a semi-exhaustive list of outlets for obtaining episodes.

Any other ideas?

Well, we can't focus just on the show, that will never work, so how about we focus on all the elements it combined? Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Satire, Humor...etc.

6: Couldn't hurt. The show itself was a pop culture melting pot. I don't see why its group couldn't be much the same. Within reason, of course. We wouldn't want the boards to become a total mess.

I wouldn't mind discussing some non-MST3K bad movies as well. Maybe we can provide eachother group support for bad cinema.

Sounds perfectly reasonable.

Support group for bad movies? I think that was the point of MST3K at times, if you saw those movies without their comedic relief you'd have gone catatonic.
